Summertime, and the Living's PZ. Megamax Airlock Review!

Hello one and all! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, so thank you for being patient while I worked out some personal things. Now that I’m back I’m feeling more refreshed than ever, and eager to start producing more content at a faster pace! In today’s blogpost we’ll be reviewing one of my new favorite products from Northshore: The Megamax Airlock diaper!

Now that spring has sprung, and we’re heading into the warmer months I think I can speak for a lot of us when I say that summertime can make wearing diapers an absolute drag! Heat and humidity are definitely not our friends when we’re often wearing an extra layer underneath our clothes. I know that I’ve often found myself hot, sweaty, and less than happy under my diaper, and excessive sweating can be damaging to your skin, especially for those who wear diapers for extended periods of time. Luckily Northshore is here to help with their Megamax Airlock Diapers!

The Megamax Airlock Diapers took the features of the fan favorite Megamax, and placed them on a cloth-like outer shell that offers more breathability than plastic backed briefs. The design is not entirely dissimilar to the design of the original Megamax, with the fit being more or less the same as the original, however I feel that the front wings may be just a teensy bit shorter, but that hasn’t led to any difference in fit for me! With that being said these diapers still run a little larger than other brands I’ve tried such as ABuniverse and Tykables, so you might want to consider wearing a size down than what you normally wear.

Northshore again has knocked it out of the park with the packaging for the Megamax Airlock. Rather than the opaque packaging that the standard Megamax have, the Airlocks have opted for a transparent bag, with a sticker panel displaying product information including sizing, absorbency rating, and features. While it may not be as information packed as the original Megamax, this packaging still evokes a very premium aesthetic that is appealing, and straight to the point.

Each pack of Megamax Airlock has 12 diapers, as opposed to 10 with their plastic backed counterparts. The diaper itself is plain white, and unlike the original, the Airlock has a tasteful wetness indicator featuring the Northshore name, as well as their heart, and shield logo. Both of these fade when wet, and provide caregivers a way to know when a diaper has been soiled when taking care of patients that are nonverbal, or otherwise have a hard time communicating.

The interior of the diaper has the same honeycomb pattern with blue surge zone that you’ll find on the plastic Megamax. It’s incredibly soft, and comfortable against the skin, and feels like a premium product when you’re wearing it. The wicking and absorption speed are what you would expect from Northshore, and these diapers can withstand multiple wettings while still maintaining a decent level of dryness against the skin. I definitely think that you feel damp a bit quicker than the standard Megamax, which would make sense given the slightly reduced capacity. The Megamax Airlock also has an elastic front and back waistband, that is great for people who find themselves more active and need a diaper that can move, and flex with them! Additionally, this diaper also has the same super tall leak guards that I love about the regular Megamax, and I find that these tall, double leak guards do a fantastic job of keeping me leak free, especially when my diaper is close to capacity.

I think what makes this diaper stand out compared to other cloth-backed diapers is the plastic tape landing zone! A lot of other high capacity cloth backed diapers use hook and loop tapes, which are great for readjustments on the fly, but can sometimes slip, and stretch out more than traditional sticky tapes. Oftentimes I find that when I wear hook and loop diapers, the material around the tapes, and the wings themselves stretch over repeated adjustments. Now, after extended wear, even the Megamax Airlock will stretch a little bit, but compared to other cloth backed diapers, I definitely find myself making fewer adjustments, and after an extended period I don’t sag as badly as other cloth backed diapers. The tapes on the Megamax Airlock are the same wide, ultra-sticky tapes on the standard Megamax. They can definitely be unstuck and reapplied a few times, but as with other diapers extended wear may cause the tapes to rip your diaper when you try to readjust.

Capacity wise they hold just slightly less than the plastic backed Megamax, but still hold more than enough to get you through the day, or night. During my daytime performance test, I counted three full size wettings, with two smaller wettings over an 8 hour period. The diaper held without leaks, and without sweating through the outer layer, which I’ve found has been an issue with some other cloth backed diapers.

As an added bonus, if you’re someone who values discretion, I don’t think anything comes close to the Megamax Airlock. When worn under a pair of jeans, these diapers make absolutely no noise, and since these diapers are just a little bit thinner, they maintain a much lower profile. I can even wear shorts with them, and folks are none the wiser! Granted, these diapers are still fairly tall, so a onesie still might be in order for those who want to be extra sure that they won’t be exposed by any sort of waistband peekage.

Overall, the Megamax Airlock is a diaper that I will gladly add to my summer wardrobe, and my normal rotation of diapers! Anyone looking for comfy, cool padding to help combat the summer heat should definitely check these out!
